The Respiratory System

We saw that the first of the five called Prana vayu (प्राण वायु) controls the chest region and therefore the respiratory system. Naga vayu (नाग वायु) is the upaprana for Prana vayu which helps hick ups etc.

The fist thing that we associate with respiratory problem is cold. Blocked nose. Phlegm related problems and so on. Phlegm troubles comfortable breathing and also hinders easy digestion as the agni necessary to digest is slowed down. When I was young my mother used to say 'agni mandichuduthu' medically they call it agnimandyam.

So the interdependence of prana and samana are clear and they mutually support and affect also.

Therefore, maintaining the respiratory system becomes equally important. What are the simple home recipes for this?

The number three plays a huge role in the Indological studies. The trigunas or tridoshas  or the medicinal combinations like triphala, trikatuka, three is an important number.

We  will see about it in the next post!!

When you learn different languages and when you are into  transliteration of sanskrit - English this happens helplessly. I failed to notice also as it happens for all the non American English words. Thanks Aneetasi Correction made for phlegm :)

Knowing Your Body!

Knowing your body is a fundamental and essential too.

The body is made up of five elements called panca bhutas. (पंचभूत) (பஞ்சபூதங்கள்). They are the earth element, water, fire, air and space elements. That is about the construction of the body.

The vital energy that flows through the body is called the Pranas (प्राण). This prana shakti is of five types of vayu..air. They have five subordinate or subsidiary vayus called Upa Pranas (उप प्राण)

The first one is the Prana vayu (प्राण वायु). Prana vayu controls the chest region and therefore the respiratory system. Naga vayu (नाग वायु) is the upaprana for Prana vayu which helps hick ups etc.

The second is Apana vayu (अपान वायु), which moves in the anus region, controlling the discharge of body waste like urine, faeces etc. Kurma वायु (कुर्म वायु) is the upaprana which helps keep the eye open.

The third one is Samana vayu (समान वायु), moves in the naval region and therefore controls the digestive system predominantly. Its Upa prana Krikara (क्रीकर) induces hunger thirst etc.

The fourth one is Udana vayu (उदान वायु), moves in the throat region and हेल्प्स swallow. It has a very specific spritual function which is not in the purview of this post. Its Upa prana Devadatta (देवदत्त) induces yawning.

The fifth one is Vyana vayu (व्यानवायु) which move in the entire body and helps blood circulation. The upa prana of this is the Dhananjaya vayu (धनञ्जय वायु) which decomposes the body takes it back to earth.

Now by going through the above carefully we understand that the Prana and Samana Vayu-s are important for day to day function. Balancing them is very important.
We will see the digestive system and the balancing of circulation of samana vayu.
Maheswari and Anutha any imbalance or deposits of toxins in the dygestive system is immediately conveyed to the brain through headach.

Before pin pointing the specific problem, first and foremost balance your digestive system by cleansing and lubricating it properly so that half the battle is won.

To achieve this only I suggested sukku kashayam the recipe I am giving again here.

Boil half tsp of dry ginger powder with half cup water and jaggery or panagkalkandu (Palm sugar) to taste. Strain and drink as your first drink in the morning in the empty stomach. Do it for one month and see the results!

Anutha's headache is probably induced by strain on the optical nerves. She needs vitamin supliments through veg salads, veg. soups and fruits.
We will move to the respiratory system next.
